Wildfires Prove Home Fire Resistance Material Makes a Difference
February 28, 2010 4:52 pm News and SocietyThe 2003 wildfires in California proved that the newer homes that were constructed with fire rating solutions in mind, fared and survived more with less damage than the older homes. The newer homes burned three times less slowly because they were designed to be more fire resistant. By designing the homes using material that was built to withstand heat and flames, it increased it chance for survival. By preventing the exterior from catching fire, it prevented the interior from going up in flames. While the older homes went up in flames like matchsticks when the wildfires came to them, the newer homes did not catch on fire.
